- Deliver viable renewable energy schemes for landowners, investors and communities.
The Current UK Situation
The UK Government has committed to tackling climate change. Currently cross-party consensus is that central government must lead the UK to fulfilling its commitments towards minimising all carbon emissions. This means that legislation and policy making over the next decade will support further reductions in carbon emissions from UK energy generation, industry, housing and transport.
In terms of energy generation more renewable capacity is critically needed. Although it is unlikely that Government will support renewable energy with subsidies, it is likely that planning and general policy will become increasingly supportive. Coal, oil and gas based generation are unlikely to see similar support.
In the housing sector, the government has committed to prohibiting gas based heating in new homes after 2025. This will drive house developers to look at district heating and all electric solutions.
In 2017 transport accounted for 27% of the UK’s carbon emissions. It is likely that policy makers will encourage the use electric vehicles to help reduce these emissions. For this to be effective, the electricity that charges the vehicles needs to be sourced from low carbon generation.
